What’s happening to young people?

At 27 per cent, anxiety and depression are the leading cause of disability for young women, 20 – 24. 2007 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing

Feeling anxious or depressed are the single biggest health issues facing young Australians.

Young people have complex lives and relationships and face challenging life events that can affect their ability to cope. These include family break up, blended families, both parents working, pressure for high education, rapid technological change, violence, media, cyber safety, drugs, working parents and sexuality.

While the numbers of stressors for young people are increasing, close-knit community structures that supported previous generations are not so freely available for a first point-of-call help when young people need advice.

To get young people back-on-track requires people. People helping people with positive emotional health knowledge, sharing the importance of seeking early help, social-connectedness and community involvement. These are all at the heart of Blossomproject.
